GIS/GPS

GIS/GPS - #82001 This project focuses on expanding members knowledge in technology through the study of GIS/GPS.  GIS is a computer program for storing, retrieving, analyzing and displaying data.  It combines two kinds of information: geographically referenced information (latitude and longitude coordinates, spatial or location information) and descriptive information (characteristics of a place).  GIS can create a map to show a member what a place is like, where teenagers live, etc.  GPS is a navigational system that can accurately locate your position anytime, regardless of weather.  GPS is important to search and rescue teams and pilots, but is also used for recreational purposes such as orienteering, hiking and boating.
