Saturday Workshops
Food, Culture and Reading
Janet Lake – UEE, Crook County; Vicki Hayman – UEE, Weston County· Saturday, 11am – 12pm
Get a taste of food and culture from Mexico! The 4-H After School pilot “Food, Culture & Reading” was experienced by Crook County youth in grades 4-6 last spring. The literature-based curriculum included learning about food, nutrition, healthy lifestyles, and multi-cultures. In this workshop, you will experience a Mexican game and grains in a fun and tasty way!
Board Training
Mary Martin – UEE, Teton County
- Saturday, 11am – 12pm
Serving on a board can be a challenging and rewarding experience. This session will provide an overview of what makes effective meetings, and increase awareness of what separates exceptional boards from marginal boards.
Break Through the Blast Off
Brynn Berg – UEE, Park County· Saturday, 11am – 12pm
This workshop will help facilitate a better understanding of the statewide rocket launch initiative and provide a more extensive explanation of rules and regulations. Resources on how to get a rocketry club organized and moving in your community as well as information on other resources needed to make your rocketry club a success will also be provided. At the end of the workshop we will head outside and launch some rockets if weather permits!
Grant Writing 101

Want to expand your educational programming but you do not have the budget for it? Come learn techniques for finding, completing, and becoming successful in securing grant funds for your education programming.
Balancing The Pieces of Our Life

This workshop will review what it means to balance all the pieces of our lives. Whether it be 4-H, work, family or more. It will be an interactive workshop that will share new ways to view the many demands we are each faced with.
New 4-H Volunteer Training

Are you a new volunteer with questions? Have you been volunteering in 4-H for a while and want a refresher of the basics? If you answered yes, then this workshop could be for you. Participants will leave the workshop and meet requirements to be trained as 4-H volunteer. Participants will be able to ask questions of the State 4-H Office for clarification, function, basic 4-H involvement, etc.
Yearly Club Planning

4-H Club Planning …. A 4-H club plan really helps a club run smoothly and makes leading a club less stressful. Participants will have material which will streamline the planning for the club year and give leaders the skills needed to create lessons which plan for teaching to an attitude, knowledge or skill. This workshop will give tools to make your meetings "masterful".
How does science, engineering and technology (SET) fit in 4-H?

The United States is falling behind the rest of the world in producing graduates in the field of science, engineering, and technology. The new national 4-H science, engineering, and technology (SET) initiative is designed to spark interest in youth participants to pursue careers in these areas. The question is what can 4-H do to engage youth in SET? You will learn the key elements of SET and how to incorporate SET principles into your club and project activities.
The Magic of Building Assets in Youth – Adult Volunteers Only!
Brad Barton – Brad Barton Speaks· Saturday, 1:30pm – 3:30pm
Discover how the Search Institute’s Asset Building prevention model equips youth to make constructive life choices. Brad knows first-hand. He illustrates this powerful approach as he shares his own journey from high-risk youth to NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship recipient. Realize the power of fostering caring relationships and leave this magical presentation with practical tools for building assets in youth.
Felting Fun
Brynn Berg – UEE, Park County· Saturday, 1:30pm – 3:30pm
Come experience how much fun you can have with felting! Needle felting is a new and growing technique that can be used to create stand alone projects or to embellish hand felted or store bought pieces. Wet felting can also be used to create mats of felt for a multitude of purposes. This class will teach you the different processes of felting as well as allow yourself to open up to your creative side as you try your hand at felting. At the end of this class you will be ready to go teach and tell all of your friends and 4-Hers about the new felting frenzy!
Individual supplies will be included for this workshop and will be yours to take home at the end of the workshop. Cost $35 per person.
Teens…On the Road to Financial Success
Cole Ehmke – UW Financial Specialist· Saturday, 4pm – 5pm
Teens are at an important transitional time when they’re beginning to take care of their own finances. This workshop presents elements to starting their financial life right with analyzing spending, obtaining and managing banking services, making consumer decisions and exploring financial careers. It will also talk about what can be done with the proceeds from their projects.
4-H Portfolio Potpourri
Johnathan Despain – Wyoming 4-H Program Director· Saturday, 4pm – 5pm
Record books are no more! Come learn about 4-H Portfolios, their role in record keeping and applications for National 4-H Congress, Conference, and state 4-H scholarships. Participants will walk through each section for tips on helping youth fill out for now and the long haul. Interactive with a question and answer period included. Don’t miss getting your answers!
Parliamentary Procedure – Why Such A Mess?
Terry Stretesky – 4-H Leader, Natrona County· Saturday, 4pm – 5pm
A class for the novice to intermediate user. We will cover the why's and wherefores of Roberts Rules of Order. A booster shot of what you already know. We will explore how to teach it to our youth.
Pump Up Your Livestock and Horse Project Meetings
Dawn Sanchez – UEE, Uinta County· Saturday, 4pm – 5pm
Often times when we continuously use the same resources to teach livestock and horse project meetings each year, they tend to lose their excitement for the members. This workshop will provide participants with new or additional ideas to use at project meetings. This includes curriculums, games, books and more. So if you’re interested in swine, beef, sheep, horses, rabbits, goats, or poultry, come try some hands-on learning yourself.
Pump Up Your Food and Nutrition Project

Sunday Workshops
Managing and Feeding For the Successful 4-H Fair Livestock Project
Jim Waggoner – UW Livestock Specialist· Sunday, 8:30am – 10:30am
The workshop is designed to provide information on matching the livestock project to the individual 4-H member to help ensure an enjoyable livestock experience. Not everyone can have a grand champion, however, a project where the member is matched to the animal specie and learns/develops skills in animal handling, self reliance, decision making, believing in one’s self, nutrition, animal health etc. are far more valuable in life than that one grand champion.
Horse Levels 1 and 2 Rating Certification
Gary Grubb – UEE, Sweetwater County

The primary goals of the horse projects are to learn safe and proper management and control of your horse. The “Advancement Levels” program is a complimentary program for 4-H horse members and leaders. It serves as a guide for instruction and evaluation of each member’s progress. The Levels program is a non-competitive program where members advance through a level of skill at their own pace. Attend this workshop to become a certified rater or to brush up on your rating skills.
Unlock the Magic in You! – Youth Leaders Only!

An important element of leadership is discovering yourself and then living in alignment with some key principles that really work for you. This fast-paced presentation is filled with magic, fun personal stories and practical guidance for unlocking the magic in you.
Burger Bites

Would you like a new adventure into the “World of Sewing”? Are you trying to help your sewing kids develop sew self-confidence? Then this is the class for you! We’re going to learn several fun sewing skills making – Burger Bites. Cost $3 for kit. Supplies: sewing machine and sewing supplies including thread – brown, yellow, red, green, white, pinking shears (if you have them), hand sewing needle, paper scissors.
Working With Youth Groups and Keeping Your Cool

Are you challenged to keep 4-Hers under control during 4-H meetings? Do behavior issues get in the way of real learning? In this session, participants will learn about establishing group guidelines and why they are important. Participants will also learn about the importance of planning for all aspects of the club meeting, as well as using various techniques to create a successful and cooperative learning environment. Participants will leave with a positive attitude and a youth lesson plan to use in club meetings on Establishing Guidelines and Expectations in your 4-H Club.
Claim Your Treasure! Treasurer Manual That Is!

So you’ve got a new treasurer in your club, eh? What is an EIN? What happened to our club’s popcorn machine? Come learn how to help youth in your club, council, or committee use the 4-H Treasurer’s manual to facilitate fiscal accountability and club function. Participants will work a treasure hunt through the manual learning new “gems” and valuable “nuggets” of info.

Buymanship – Clearing The Clouds

Youth/Adult Partnerships
State 4-H Leadership Team· Sunday, 11am – 12pm
Learn how to effectively work together when youth and adults come together to design, plan, and carry out learning activities in the 4-H program. Research shows that vibrant youth groups have one major thing in common – youth and adults working together to accomplish their goals. Come learn how to break down the barriers between youth and adults to facilitate effective partnerships.
Ask the Shooting Sports Experts

Come and learn how to start or restart a program in your county. Maybe you have disciplines that
haven't been done in sometime but have kids interested. We can help. We will give information and
some fun advice on how best or maybe a better way to start or rejuvenate your county 4-H shooting sports program.
Being A Camp Leader

Serving as a Camp Leader is one way youth can develop and practice leadership skills. Look at ways to convert your camp to a more youth lead camp. Also helpful teaching tips to train the youth to be prepared to be camp leaders.
Parliamentary Procedures – So You think You Know it All?

A class for the intermediate to advanced user. We will cover and explore more of the Subsidiary Motions, Point of Order, Tabling properly and efficiently, passing the gavel and more!
Leadership Puzzle

We are given leadership opportunities nearly every day. How we choose to react to these opportunities is largely impacted by our leadership styles and our experiences. What kind of leader are you? Do you like to make decisions, or are you more comfortable staying behind the scenes? In this workshop, we will explore your various leadership styles, those of others, and how to put it all together to make you more successful in your everyday experiences when working with others.
Johnson County Dog Project Activities/Dog Leaders Open Forum
Bob and Kay Pierce – 4-H Leaders, Johnson County· Sunday, 12:15pm – 1:15pm
A 20 minute presentation of Johnson Counties Dog Project activities created to maintain interest and excitement followed by an open forum for dog leaders to share similar activities. Dog leaders are encouraged to bring photos or promotional materials to share with the group.
Presentation Guidelines
Colleen Campbell – UEE, Natrona County· Sunday, 12:15pm – 1:15pm
Class participants will learn to work with youth in selecting a topic, organizing materials and notes, determine delivery method, preparing visual aids and becoming comfortable delivering their presentation. 4-H Youth and club meetings are greatly enhanced with presentations. Make this public speaking opportunity a goal for 2008 members.
Horsemanship
Gary Grubb – UEE, Sweetwater County· Sunday, 12:15pm – 1:15pm
We will cover the movements leading up to the upper levels. We will work on teaching horsemanship to kids so it’s safe and fun. ---- My methods are tried and true. Come join in the fun.
